Seen by few Visitors Until recently the monastic complex of Alchi, nestled in a beautiful valley in the Ladakh Himalayas has miraculously preserved buddhist wallpaintings of unmatched splendor. Though less well known than the famous murals at Ajanta of Dunhunge, the Alchi paintings are no less exciting. This book is the first major attempts to reproduce in sumptuous color plates the brilliant world of form and color created by unknown kashmiri and Tibetan artiests between the 11th and 13th centuries.
